The final concert of the MUSIC IN THE PARK cycle – a virtuoso finale!

On Thursday, May 23rd 2019, Mazowsze’s orchestra, conducted by Jacek Boniecki, and their special guest, Joanna Różewska, performed for the an audience gathered at the Karolin chamber music hall. It was the final concert of this season’s MUSIC IN THE PARK cycle.

The saying that music is the best remedy against bad weather came true once more. Despite the rainy weather, classical music lovers and the fans of Mazowsze’s orchestra filled the chamber music hall at Karolin almost to the last seat. Not only did they find shelter from the rain, but they also experienced an amazing musical treat. They definitely did not regret that instead of staying at home they decided to spend the evening at Mazowsze’s headquarters. The audience members were in an excellent mood when they were leaving Karolin, because the climax of the concert, as well as this year’s whole MUSIC IN THE PARK season, was Frederic Chopin’s Variations on "Là ci darem la mano" for Piano and Orchestra, which is filled with youthful verve and joy.

The pianist Joanna Różewska, who was the special guest at the concert, performed Variations with an amazing technical perfection, which proved that Chopin’s works in the brillante style are her dream repertoire. She also showed great artistic sensitivity.

In the first part of the concert, the artist presented a mini-recital made up of musical pieces by Chopin and Paderewski. She introduced each of the presented works with a short commentary. The performance began with the famous “Minuet in G” by Ignacy Jan Paderewski. There is a short anecdote connected with this composition. The miniature piece was composed in 1886. At that time, Paderewski lived in Warsaw, and he was a frequent guest at the place of Tytus Chałbiński, a doctor and nature lover. The host adored Mozart’s music, and he often asked Paderewski to play the works of the Viennese master composer. The pianist, somewhat bored with playing the same pieces over and over again, decided to play a joke on his friend. One evening, when he was again asked to play Mozart, he played a composition that the host had never heard before. He was enraptured by it – could any other composer create a piece so ingenious, Chałbiński wondered? Well, in the end, Paderewski felt inclined to reveal that he had composed the piece himself, the day before. The joke turned out a success!

Apart from “Minuet in G,” Joanna Różewska also presented “Rondo à la Krakowiak in F major,” (Op. 14), “Mazurka in C-sharp minor” no. 3 (Op. 50) as well as “Andande spianato and Grande Polonaise” in E-flat major (Op. 22) by Frederic Chopin. And for the finale, the pianist was joined by maestro Jacek Boniecki and the musicians of Mazowsze’s orchestra, and together they performed Variations on "Là ci darem la mano" for Piano and Orchestra.

It was this season’s last concert of the MUSIC IN THE PARK cycle. Maestro Jacek Boniecki thanked the audience for coming to the concert, as well as for the whole season filled with collective musical emotion. He also invited everyone to the Family Picnic with Mazowsze, which is taking place on June 15th and 16th.

The events of the MUSIC IN THE PARK cycle will resume after the summer break, and  Mazowsze’s orchestra invites you to the concerts, too. Additionally, after the summer break, there will be more musical surprises, especially the event with which Mazowsze is going to celebrate the year of Stanisław Moniuszko – more details to be revealed soon!
